Freight operations, or the logistics sector in general, play an essential part in the global supply chain network, on which many businesses rely. Their operations, however, have an impact on the environment and carbon footprint. The Climate and Clean Air Coalition launched the Global Green Freight Project as part of a larger effort to decrease climate and health effects while improving the energy and cost efficiency of carrying products and commodities. The focus of the initiative is to promote the Global Green Freight Action Plan.

The Global Green Freight Action Plan’s objective is to make it easier for governments, civil society, and business sectors to work together to improve the efficiency of global goods transportation while reducing climate, energy, health, and economic consequences. The Action Plan consists of a growing list of initiatives involving stakeholders in three major goals: aligning and strengthening current green freight efforts, establishing new green freight programs, and adding strategies to reduce carbon emissions.
